Eyewear and sunglasses

When you are getting involved in what may look like it’s about to turn into a confrontational situation, remove your glasses from your face if possible. Things can go bad on any call no matter how incidental it may start out, but when the fists start flying the last thing you want is to have your eyewear punched through your eye socket. I see many officers wearing their glasses above their heads when approaching a subject kind of like frog eyes. The problem with that approach is when you get into a physical situation they will become a distraction to you, your first instinct will be to grab your glasses when they hit the ground and you will lose site of the bad guy for a minute. Stay focused not only with your eyes, but your tactical safety as well.
