Special Olympics get lift from Calif. officers
Cops set aside their uniforms in favor of running shoes on a mission of compassion

VENTURA, Calif. — Ventura County law enforcement officers took to the streets Thursday morning, but the mass mobilization had nothing to do with collaring criminals.
In what has become an annual rite, dozens of men and women from various agencies set aside their uniforms in favor of running shoes and shorts as they carried the Special Olympics torch on a circuitous relay route from the steps of Ventura City Hall to Point Mugu.
