Police Commissioner Kelly leads in NYC mayor poll

Results: 23 percent of voters prefer Ray Kelly

NEW YORK — Police Commissioner Ray Kelly is the top choice for mayor among city voters, according to a poll from Quinnipac University.

Kelly has served as police commissioner under three-term Mayor Michael Bloomberg and David Dinkins and was selected as top choice by 23 percent of voters in the poll among 1,234 registered voters.

He beat out the other contenders despite consistently saying he has no inclination to run – he hasn’t hired campaign staff or conducted any fundraising, according to the New York Daily News.

"Police Commissioner Ray Kelly has never given the faintest hint that he’d like to move from Police Headquarters across the street to City Hall, but New York seems to like the idea of Kelly for mayor," Quinnipiac poll director Maurice Carroll said.
