Video: Pharmacist fired for shooting at robber
Walgreens says Jeremy Hoven violated store policy
By PoliceOne Staff
Benton Harbour, Mich. — A pharmacist who says he was unfairly terminated for shooting a robber is filing a lawsuit against Walgreens, CNN reported.
In the video, Hoven is chased around the store, eventually crouching down and discharging his firearm three times. The gunman was uninjured, sources say.
Hoven says he was never trained to handle robberies despite a statement from Walgreens that suggests otherwise.
“Our policies in this area are designed to maintain the maximum safety of our customers and employees. Store employees receive comprehensive training on our company’s robbery procedures and how ,” the statement read.
Hoven witnessed another armed robbery two years ago, and asked Walgreens failed to install a panic button, which never happened.
Lawyer Dan Swanson said Walgreens interfered with Hoven’s right to self-defense by terminating his employment.
Hoven's case is pending.
