WALKER, Mich. — Michigan State Police released dash cam showing parts of the 3-county pursuit that ended in the deaths of Walker officer Trevor Slot and two suspects.
After robbing a bank in October, Kristopher Cheyne and Derryl Lafave fled police, reaching speeds of up to 120 mph and firing at officers. They got off the highway at the same exit that Officer Slot was trying to put down stop sticks to end the pursuit, WZZM reported. According to one trooper who saw the vehicle approach the officer, Slot was "running for his life."
"The suspect was yelling at me and coming towards me with the gun pointed in my direction," a trooper said, referring to Cheyne. The trooper said he fired several times before Cheyne "fell face down in the grass" and died.
A Muskegon County deputy fired 3-4 rounds at LaFave, who remained in the backseat of the vehicle with his gun levelled in the direction of officers, according to WOOD. Lafave stopped breathing moments later, police said.
The Ottawa County Prosecutor stated officers were justified in killing Cheyne and LaFave.
