N.Y. detective shot, killed by estranged husband

Griselda Espinal, 38, worked for 18 years as a narcotics detective.
It was unclear how she died, but she may have been stabbed before being shot, said Deputy Police Chief Rick Hovey. Her body was found inside her home.
The first officer on the scene found her husband, Francisco Espinal, 37, a truck driver, outside waving a gun before he put it in his mouth and pulled the trigger, killing himself, Hovey said.
Neighbors in the quiet neighborhood 83 miles south of Albany reported hearing gunshots and seeing the couple's three children, ages 4 to 11, run from the house.
A neighbor took the children in, but they ran outside when Francisco Espinal shot himself, witnesses said.
Neighbors said Francisco Espinal had not lived at the home for several years.
The children were placed in protective custody.
