Report: Robbers wore Hollywood masks to pose as NYPD
By PoliceOne Staff
NEW YORK — Three suspects who held up a Pay-O-Matic on Valentine's Day may have used expensive, Hollywood-style face masks to impersonate officers.
The trio who identified themselves as detectives before stealing $200,000 from the check-cashing business in Queens were initially described as white men with blue NYPD jackets, according to the New York Daily News. The NYPD learned from a tip the suspects may have been wearing masks of Hollywood quality — far above what is found in the average costume shop — that hug the skin and wrap around the entire head.
"We don’t know if they are white, black or Hispanic," a police source said. "People in the neighborhood saw them in the van for two or three days before the robbery. They saw three white guys."
The disguises included sunglasses and gloves worn by all three, which prevented any skin from showing. Sources said one of the faces resembled pro wrestler Bill Goldberg.
The suspects were seen driving away in a Ford Expedition with a broken rear passenger window.
