Nearly 14-hour standoff in Pa. ends in death of gunman
Police said they had information that the suspect intended to cause them harm
ANNVILLE, Pa. — A nearly 14-hour standoff in Lebanon County came to a close Wednesday morning with the death of a gunman who had held police at bay since the previous night.
Samuel Snyder, 57, died of a single gunshot wound at his home along Route 934 in North Annville Township, according to state police. According to police, Snyder had been distraught over his son's Feb. 25 suicide and had made statements that he would be justified in harming state troopers.
When troopers went to Snyder's home around 7 p.m. to serve an emergency mental health commitment, police said they had information that he intended to cause them harm, had armed himself in his home, and was known to have numerous weapons.
