Daniel Garcia, 23, the suspected shooter, and accomplices Jordy Bernal, 18, and Michael Apolinario, 25, appeared in San Mateo Superior Court Wednesday on charges that include attempted murder of a San Bruno officer and conspiracy to kill a gang member, said District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe. They didn't enter a plea.
Garcia, who lives in San Bruno, is accused of shooting twice at a pursuing officer who was about 15 feet behind him in the area of 3rd Avenue near Belle Air elementary school just after 1:45 a.m., authorities said. The officer, whose name was not released, slid to the ground while taking cover and was not wounded. Garcia escaped, but was arrested around 7 p.m. Saturday in South San Francisco.
