Calif. city may let citizens review police use of deadly force

Currently, the civilian board can only be convened if the police chief calls for it

PASADENA, Calif. — The public safety committee Monday will address whether Pasadena's civilian use of force board has the power to review unjustified shootings and other uses of deadly force by the city's police officers.

City officials have been inundated with inquiries from residents questioning why the use of force board did not convene following the officer-involved shooting death of Kendrec McDade in March.

Other residents have demanded the board review allegations that Pasadena officers have participated in kidnappings, assaults, lying under oath and beatings under the color of authority.
