4 Ariz. cops file claim over crime scene slideshow shown at party
Officers say 28 photos of death investigations were intended to show memorable moments and inside jokes

PHOENIX — Four police officers suspended for showing a slideshow of crime scene photos during a holiday party have filed a $2.9 million notice of claim against the city.
The officers said in the claim they screened a video that included 28 photos of non-homicide death investigations in December at a party with other squad members, intended to show "memorable moments, experiences and inside jokes the squad had shared that year."
They say the city, however, made defamatory comments that led to extreme emotional distress before an internal investigation was completed, according to the Arizona Republic.
"I am extremely disappointed in the unprofessional conduct and the total lack of respect shown to those we are trusted to serve," acting Police Chief Joe Yahner said when the video surfaced in February.
Officer Courtney Mayo, who is asking for $2 million, said the city portrayed her as a "monster." She said she could not defend herself due to a department-issued gag order, and shortly after the incident suffered a miscarriage that her obstetrician cited as stress-induced.
