BOILING SPRINGS LAKES, N.C. — The city fired a police chief for ordering an on-duty officer to pick up the chief's son and drive him to work.
Chief Emmett Ballree was suspended with pay last month as the city investigated the allegations and fired Tuesday morning, WWAY reported.
Citing information acquired in interviews with officers, City manager Jeff Repp said city resources were misappropriated in the incident.
"If it had been an isolated incident, maybe I would have taken another course of action, but this is the Chief of Police," Repp said.
Ballree told the station via phone that he accepts his firing and does not plan to appeal the decision. He said he is looking into careers outside of law enforcement.
