School asks for Ohio officer to be removed
Following an incident in which a girl's arm was broken while resisting an officer, the school has requested his dismissal

AKRON, Ohio — The superintendent of Akron's Jennings Community Learning Center said Friday that he asked the Akron Police Department to temporarily remove an officer from the school after a mother accused the officer of breaking her 14-year-old daughter’s arm.
Superintendent David W. James said the decision is effective on Monday when students return to school.
"We're not saying that he did anything wrong," James said. "But I felt we needed to get all the information sorted out. And we want to make sure that everything runs smoothly at Jennings when students return to school."
Lt. Rick Edwards said the officer was temporary being reassigned pending the outcome of the investigation. He is not under any suspension.
Sandra Williams said the officer should be fired for using excessive force in the Oct. 26 incident.
Williams' attorney, Eddie Sipplen said, "He went from 0-60 without any provocation. Had this been a regular person doing this, this person would have been charged with felonious assault."
Sipplen sat with his teenage client and her mother as he commented on the school surveillance video that shows the 8th grader being subdued by a school police officer. In the video, you see the School Resource Officer push her to a set of lockers and begin to place her in an arm lock.
Sipplen said it was Williams' second day at the school on a disciplinary transfer, when according to the officer's incident report, he claimed to have witnessed the teen cursing and pulling papers off the wall.
Paul Hlynsky, President of Akron's Police Union, spoke with NewsChannel5 on Thursday. Hlynsky said as of right now, there is no reason not to defend the officer involved, adding he is calling for a fair and thorough investigation.
A spokeswoman for the school district said their human resources department does not have information on the incident or any other information on prior incidents or complaints involving the officer.
