Ill. case highlights importance of undercover supervision

While relatively few cross the line into criminal behavior, effective supervision can help prevent transgressions from the start

SCHAUMBERG, Ill. — Police officers exist out of the recognition that people don't always obey the law.

But who bears the responsibility of ensuring that officers working undercover don't cross the line between acting like a criminal and becoming one?
