3 Wis. officers not charged for suspect's death in back of squad

Derek Williams, 22, died after struggling to breathe in the back of a squad car in July 2011, prompting multiple investigations into what happened that night, and who — if anyone — was at fault. A coroner originally declared that Williams died as a result of sickle cell, then changed his ruling to a homicide, launching an investigation into the practices and protocol of Milwaukee police. But no evidence showed that officers believed medical attention was needed and that they knew failure to obtain aid would cause bodily harm to Williams.
