Man kills woman before being fatally wounded by La. police
LAFAYETTE- A man walked into a Victoria's Secret storeroom Friday evening, shot and killed a woman at work there, and then was killed by police, Lafayette police said.
Sherika Broussard, 21, of Breaux Bridge, was shot in the head about 5:30 p.m. in the store at the Mall of Acadiana, said Cpl. Mark Francis, a Lafayette Police Department spokesman.
Francis said his department did not have the gunman's name. Since a police officer shot the man, he said Louisiana State Police will investigate that part of the shooting and would look for the gunman's identification.
He said the man ‘‘had frequented the store before." Francis did not know whether the man had his gun out when he entered the store Friday, or pulled it after locating Broussard.
Mall security guards and off-duty officers working for the mall heard the shots and were running toward the area while store employees were calling police, he said.
Third-year Detective Dustin Firmin, working an off-duty security job, shot the man, he said. Under standard procedure, Firmin will be put on administrative leave during the investigation and take counseling.
