Tex. Deputy Killed By Drunk Driver
Officer Down: Deputy Charles Akins - [Houston / Harris Co, Texas]
|Deputy Charles Akins, a K-9 officer with the Harris County, Tex. Sheriff's office in Houston, was killed in the early morning hours of Nov. 17 when his K-9 unit was struck head-on by another vehicle on FM 1960 west in north Harris County.
It took rescue personnel more than 45 minutes to extricate Akins from his vehicle.
He was taken via Life Flight to Memorial Herman Hospital where he passed away.
The driver of the vehicle that struck Akins was charged with Intoxicated manslaughter.
Akins is survived by his mother and young son and will be missed by all who knew him.
