Retired Officer Dies in Car Crash

Officer Down: Retired Officer Robert W. WIlsbach, Sr. - [Abington , Pennsylvania]

Retired Abington Police Officer, Robert W. Wilsbach, and two friends died in a car crash in Berks County, Penn. Jan. 18 at 8 a.m.

Officer WIlsbach retired as an active Police Officer from the Abington Police Dept. in 1999 but stayed on as a Police Dispatcher until his untimely death.

Penn. State Police of the Reading Barracks said icy road conditions caused Wilsbach who was driving his SUV, to lose control of the vehicle, skidding off Route 73, striking a guard rail, then hitting a tree as the vehicle plunged about 20 feet down an embankment.

Wilsbach and his two passengers were all pronounced dead at the scene.

Retired Officer Wilsbach served for 26 years and his son, Robert W. Wilsbach, Jr. was hired as an Officer for the Abington Police Dept. shortly after his father retired and is still serving.

Retired Officer Wilsbach is survived by his wife and six children.
