Michigan Deputy Killed in Car Crash While Responding to Call

Officer Down: Deputy Perry Filmore - [Clinton County, Michigan]

The Clinton County, Mich. Sheriffs Department is mourning the loss of one of their own. Deputy Perry Filmore died Saturday morning in the line of duty.

Wayne Kangas, Clinton Co. Sheriff: "He was just a wonderful young man."

Clinton County Sheriff Wayne Kangas could hardly hold back his emotions as he remembered the life of a fallen deputy. 37-year-old Perry Filmore was responding to a call in Westphalia.

Wayne Kangas: "It was a basically a back up call to assist another deputy. I don't want to get into."

Deputy Filmore was driving down Grange Road in Westphalia when he lost control of his car and crashed into a house. Two people were in the house at the time, and miraculously, they made it to safety. Meanwhile, police continue to sort through what could have caused this tragedy.

Wayne Kangas: "It is a time for us to sit down and get rid of some fo the heart ache and grief that goes along with this."

Deputy Filmore was a member of the Clinton County force for eight years. He is survived by his wife. His family is currently planning funeral arrangements.
