Services For Fallen N.C. Officer

Officer Down: SGT. Jeff Hewitt - [Buncombe County Sheriff's Department, North Carolina]

Arden, N.C. -- Sgt. Jeffrey T. Hewitt, 34, died Sunday, April 4.
A native of Newport News, Va., he was the son of Bill and Patricia Muse Hewitt of Travelers Rest, S.C.

An 11-year veteran with the Buncombe County Sheriff's Department, he was a member of the SRT Team and was to begin serving as a member of the Biltmore Estate Security Department within the next two weeks. He was a six-year veteran of the Marine Corps, serving as a Sergeant with the Military Police in Operation Desert Storm.

He was the owner and operator of the Lawn Rx Lawn Care Service and was an avid hunter and fisherman.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Tracie Moore Hewitt; a step-son, Taylor Youngblood of Arden; two sisters, Susan Annette Hewitt of Waynesville and Tammy Lee Keener of Maggie Valley; his maternal grandparents, Albert Earl and Bertie Lee Muse of Waynesville; a nephew, Justin Hewitt; and several aunts and uncles.

A funeral service will be held at noon Thursday in the West Asheville Baptist Church with Chaplains Bob Carter and Richard Baird officiating. Interment will follow in the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain.

His family will receive friends from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at West Asheville Baptist Church.
