Slain Minn. officer added to memorial 70 years later
The Associated Press
MARSHALL, Minn. — The name of a former rural Minnesota town marshal will be added to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial this spring - more than 70 years after he was killed.
Lyon County Sheriff Joel Dahl says the honor for Arnold Borson is a fitting tribute, but one that arrived many years late.
Jim Stinson of Colorado Springs, Colorado, is Borson's grandnephew. As a child he heard the story of Borson's death from his grandfather.
As an adult, his researched confirmed the tale and he's been campaigning to get Borson's name added to memorials to fallen officers in Minnesota and Washington, D.C.
Borson was added to the Minnesota memorial last year. A letter from the national monument to Dahl says Borson's name will be added in a ceremony there on May 13.
