Md. cop honored 'Hometown Hero'

ELLICOTT CITY, Md. – Among John Newnan’s fondest childhood memories is going to picnics with his mother, who worked for the state mental health department and often volunteered to help people with developmental disabilities.
The experiences had a lasting effect: Newnan adopted his mother’s commitment and has dedicated more than 20 years to helping people with intellectual disabilities.
