FALMOUTH — John Busby wanted something more than justice.

He wanted revenge.

Recovering from two shotgun blasts that ripped through his jaw, Busby, a Falmouth police officer, was plotting a way to get back at Melvin Reine, the man he was convinced pulled the trigger the night of Aug. 29, 1979.

Busby's struggle for recovery, his thirst for revenge and his family's ultimate decision to flee Falmouth because of a botched criminal investigation is chronicled in "The Year We Disappeared: A Father-Daughter Memoir." The book, co-authored with his daughter, Cylin, was published by Bloomsbury USA and hits book stores Tuesday.
