By PoliceOne Staff

At approximately 2100 hours on Tuesday, September 7, 2010, 54-year-old Auxiliary Police Lieutenant Dan Kromer of the Taylor (Mich.) Police Department was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver on westbound I-94. Kromer had stopped to assist a stalled vehicle. A passing car reportedly hit the disabled vehicle and struck Lieutenant Kromer, who was standing nearby. Kromer was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

The vehicle that struck Kromer, described as late model white Ford Crown Victoria, fled the scene and the driver remained at large at the time of this report.

Kromer was a 20-year volunteer with the Taylor Police Department who had recently been promoted to the rank of Lieutenant.  He is the second officer to die in the line of duty in the past two months in that city. Corporal Matthew Edwards was shot and killed while responding to reports of a burglary in progress at an apartment complex on July 23, 2010.
