Ariz. officer in critical condition; suspect found dead nearby

It is unclear if the suspect's wounds were self-inflicted

PEORIA, Ariz. – A 29-year veteran of the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office is fighting for his life after a suspect shot him multiple times early Tuesday morning in Peoria.

Deputy Ruben Garcia is listed in critical but stable condition, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

The Sheriff's Office received a call from a woman in the West Valley shortly after 11 p.m. Monday, telling dispatchers that her ex-boyfriend had a weapon and was threatening her and himself.
