CONWAY, Ark. — An officer died shortly after he was hit while directing traffic at the scene of another accident on Friday.

Officer William McGary, 26, remained in serious condition in the hours following the accident, before succumbing to his injuries at a hospital in Little Rock, according to ODMP.

The driver of the vehicle, Barry Strickland, 31, was arrested on the scene and charged with first degree battery, DWI, careless driving, and disobeying a police officer, according to Today’s THV.
