WICHITA, Kan. — An officer was nearly in tears speaking to news crews after rescuing a 2-year-old boy from a creek in east Wichita Friday.
Officer Darren Sundquist received a call around 10:30 a.m. that a boy playing with his 7-year-old sister fell into a creek and was quickly swept away, according to Kansas.com.
With the help of bystanders, the officer was able to locate the boy face down in the muddy water, between several rocks.
“His lips were extremely blue,” Sundquist said. “I didn’t have any responsiveness out of him.”
EMTs arrived and where able to get a good amount of water out of him, according to the report. The boy is still in critical condition at the hospital.
“I want him to pull through. I just did what I could,” said Sundquist.
