How to help one filmmaker's effort to support NLEOMF |

This is not your typical tactical tip. In fact, it’s more of a call for support than anything else, but it’s a cause I think all PoliceOne Members will find worthwhile. The other day I received word from my friend and PoliceOne colleague Brian Willis that he recently had lunch with Bill Erfurth, a retired Miami-Dade cop who is the Executive Producer of Heroes Behind The Badge, a new documentary honoring the law enforcement profession. The documentary, which is slated to be released to theaters in this autumn, will feature “some of the brave men and women of law enforcement who put their lives on the line and survived, and those who made the ultimate sacrifice.” According to the description posted beneath the film’s YouTube trailer, which you can see embedded below, 50 percent of all proceeds from the film will go to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund. In the press release NLEOMF sent to PoliceOne a few months ago, the documentary was filmed throughout the U.S., the documentary will highlight the lives of four fallen officers and the impact their passing has had on their family members, colleagues, and their community. The film will also feature the stories of three officers who narrowly escaped their assailants and how their near-fatal encounter has affected their lives. “These living legends will share their personal insights about how their near-fatal encounters have affected their lives,” said NLEOMF. “I’m excited to be working with Bill — a longtime supporter of the Memorial Fund and a talented film producer — on this project that will raise public awareness about the service and sacrifice law enforcement officers make each day across our nation,” said Craig W. Floyd, Chairman & CEO of the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund. Brian asked me to help get the word out on what Erfurth is doing, which I am more than happy to do. Cops and civilians alike can help support this film project by clicking “like” on the filmmakers’ Facebook page and by following them on Twitter. Furthermore, you can sign up here to receive information and add your name to the pre-order list. Check out the trailer, and add your thoughts about it in the comments area below. |
