Video: Parents hire off-duty cops to tail teens

The undercover operation allows officers to tailgate the teens for about 20 minutes at a time

By PoliceOne Staff

LOS ANGELES — A company is providing surveillance from retired or off-duty police officers to follow teenage drivers and report back to their parents.

The undercover operation allows officers to tailgate the teens for about 20 minutes, and provide a written report for parents to inform them whether children are using mobile phones, their seat belt, and are abiding by the rules of the road.

“You have nothing to lose,” said Gary Hyvonen, father of a teenage driver. “If you’ve got a good report, then it’s a peace of mind, and if you get a bad report, then maybe you have a potential problem for you and other people. So for less than a hundred bucks, it’s a win-win.”

The company has shown incredible success in LA, according to Fox News.
