Cops have been laid off in large numbers. Some smaller towns have completely eliminated their PD as a “luxury” they “can’t afford.”

Meanwhile, in Atlanta, the opposite is happening. If that department continues its pace of hiring, the force may reach its goal of 2,000 officers by the end of 2012
