Thank you for your interest in becoming a police officer with Steamboat Springs Police Services. We are currently accepting applications from Colorado P.O.S.T. Certified candidates, candidates who have successfully completed a Colorado POST certified Law Enforcement Academy (Certifiable) and from out-of-state candidates who are Colorado POST Certifiable. We are conducting hiring processes as vacancies occur.

Job Requirements |

|
The police officer hiring process consists of a report writing exercise, written test, physical fitness test, and verbal testing. The successful applicant will then enter the second phase of testing, which includes: A psychological assessment, polygraph examination, extensive background investigation, medical physical and final approval from the Chief of Police. Upon appointment, officers will enter the 16-week Field Training and Evaluation Program. Experienced officers may be accelerated through the program. The minimum qualifications for police officer are: U.S. Citizen, high school diploma or G.E.D., reasonable driving and criminal history, weight proportionate to height, 21 years of age and possess a Colorado Drivers License at the time of employment. The starting salary is $45,756 - $49,874 per year, depending on qualifications, education and law enforcement experience. Currently the top of the Police Officer pay range is $61,551. Certified officers with one year of full-time service may apply and be tested at any time. If selected, certified out-of-state officers will take the Colorado POST exam and attend a mini-skills (firearms, arrest control and driving) academy during the Field Training and Evaluation Program.
