Department Overview:

Our Police Department is currently budgeted for 27 sworn employees and 8 civilian employees. As a smaller agency, we do not have a wide variety of specialty positions, such as you would expect to see in the police departments in the Phoenix metropolitan area, for example. This means that our officers are expected to be very well-rounded in their knowledge of a wide variety of law enforcement disciplines, such as domestic violence, theft, burglary, homicide, sexual assault, fraud, etc. In most larger agencies, patrol officers take only the basic information and pass it along to detectives in a specialized area, who perform the in-depth investigation. Globe Police Officers are expected to investigate most calls to conclusion, which means they are expected to do the in-depth investigations, and not in just one area, but in several.

Globe Police Department also stresses employee development. We believe in frequent training for all employees, so we have the best trained staff anywhere. Our Department is also dedicated to provide assistance to our employees in any areas of life they desire help with (career planning, financial planning, education, etc.) – the goal is to help our employees succeed in life, not just at their job.

Area Information:

Gila County has a population of more than 53,000. Globe is located in the southern portion of Gila County and acts as the County Seat. Globe is cooler than Phoenix, averaging a high of 95 degrees during the summer months, and is warmer than the high country (Flagstaff/Show Low), averaging a low of 34 degrees during the winter months.

Globe has a small-town feel, where it seems everyone knows everyone. While, in general, this makes the community seem more friendly, it is also beneficial to conducting police investigations, as there tends to be less anonymity for the criminals.

The community itself is old (in Arizona terms), having been originally founded in the 1870s. To this day, there is housing that is more than 100 years old. Although newer buildings and homes are always being built, Globe maintains that historic feel. We have several impressive historical buildings:

  • The Drift Inn Saloon (1902)
  • The County Courthouse (1905)
  • Globe High School (1910)
  • The Woolworth Building (1916)
  • Holy Angels Church (1918)
  • The Post Office (1928)

If you appreciate history, Globe is a very appealing place.

Population: 7,500
