The Gresham Police Department currently maintains a staff of 114 sworn and 32 civilian full-time personnel, or approximately 1.1 Officers per 1,000 of the City's estimated population. This is not to say that there aren't plenty of challenges to go around for Gresham’s Police Officers.
Externally, demand for police services continues to grow, as we must keep pace with our population and the issues associated with a major metropolitan area. Since criminals don’t usually recognize City boundaries, Gresham Officers are often called upon to work cooperatively with the City of Portland and Portland Metropolitan Cities in order to protect the lives and rights of its own citizenry. As a result, Gresham Officers can expect to have a wealth of experience and opportunities to participate in multi-agency task forces and teams, as well as Department specialty assignments and training, throughout their careers.
Internally, GPD is also growing and changing, as the majority of our command staff nears retirement, and a new breed of qualified and dedicated law enforcement professionals prepare to take their place.
In addition to specialty and instructor assignments, Police Officers have several promotional opportunities throughout their career, to the ranks of Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain, or even Chief. Do you have the experience and the expertise to serve and lead our agency well into the future?
