N.C. DMV License and Theft Bureau Law Enforcement Agents enforce motor vehicle laws pertaining to vehicle registration, vehicle inspections, licensing of automotive dealers and manufacturers, vehicle theft, and document/equipment fraud. The primary responsibility of the agent position is to conduct thorough investigations in accordance with applicable motor vehicle laws. Agents must have the ability to perform search and seizure; identify, collect, & preserve evidence; conduct interrogations; serve criminal/civil processes; complete detailed investigative reports; and testify in court.
Position posted at the Journey Level - Hiring Salary - $45,957.
In-depth knowledge of the License and Theft Bureau’s Policies and Procedures, N.C. Criminal Training and Standards requirements and Accreditation Standards. Communicate effectively (oral & written) & work independently; public contact; file maintenance and management; ability to multi-task; research info, analyze, edit, develop & prepare reports, manuals & spreadsheets; ability to operate PC running software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, etc.); ability to exercise strong judgment & problem resolution; ability to interpret & develop policies. Defensively operate a State motor vehicle; move heavy objects. Operate two-way radio; qualify with agency firearms; search vehicles and/or suspicious areas. Conduct surveillance; detect & collect evidence, process and transport prisoners, endure verbal & mental abuse in hostile situations. Render aid in emergency situations; operate a fire extinguisher.
Preference will be given to applicant who currently holds an active NCJETS Law Enforcement Certification. Must be able to obtain certification as a N.C. Criminal Justice Education Training and Standards General Instructor within 12 months of accepting this position.
