Job Description

Deputy Marshals work under the authority of the Chief Marshal for the Town of Hugo.

Job duties include but are not limited to the following:

  • Perform general patrol of the jurisdiction
  • conduct initial and follow-up investigations of crimes/incidents reported to or initiated by the Hugo Marshal's Office
  • investigate motor vehicle accidents; issue tickets/summonses
  • complete necessary reports
  • make physical arrests of suspects or wanted persons
  • take enforcement actions for violations of traffic laws and/or ordinance violations
  • perform animal control enforcement
  • direct and control traffic as needed at accident, fire, natural disaster scenes or other public events
  • collect evidence, as appropriate, and maintain chain of custody of evidence
  • work closely with neighboring law enforcement jurisdictions
  • work closely with the District Attorney's Office
  • work closely with victim advocates
  • work closely with probation/parole officers
  • appear and testify in municipal, county and district courts when required to do so; participate in and/or be present at community functions
Additional Information

The position of Deputy Marshal is subject to rotating shift assignments, including requirements to regularly be on-call when not physically on duty.

Job Requirements
  • Age : at least 21 years old.
  • Education : high school diploma or G.E.D. required; current Colorado P.O.S.T. Certification required.
  • Experience : previous law enforcement experience preferred.
  • Additional Requirement :

    Applicants must be United States citizens or provide proof of valid resident alien status.
    Applicants must provide proof of current Colorado P.O.S.T. certification.
    Applicants who have prior experience as a sworn law enforcement officer/deputy must have not history of serious disciplinary issues.
    Applicants must already possess or be eligible to obtain a valid Colorado Driver's License upon hire, with no serious violations (e.g., suspensions/revocations, history of multiple speed-related violations, driving while intoxicated or driving while impaired, chargeable motor vehicle accidents) on driving record and no pending tickets/summonses.
    Applicants must have no felony convictions and must not have any previously adjudicated or pending domestic violence, assault, or sexual offense cases.
    Applicants must not be on probation or parole.
    Probationary Deputy Marshals must successfully complete a field training program, the length of which will be determined based on previous experience, at the discretion of the Chief Marshal.
    Deputy Marshals must reside within a 10-minute response time of the Town of Hugo upon hire.

    Entry Level Salary: $2,500   monthly
    Top Pay: $3,000   monthly
