Job Description

Perform general law enforcement work in the City’s Police Department.  Work includes routine patrol, traffic accident and criminal investigation, police vehicle maintenance, serving criminal papers, traffic law enforcement, and responding to domestic disputes. This employee is highly visible in crime areas, and must be aggressive in preventing crime. This employee must have the ability to develop a positive public image. Tact and firmness, sound judgment, and a positive attitude are required.

The primary responsibility of every Burlington Police Officer is the protection of life and property. By virture of the position, each officer fills a vital role in the well being of the community. Community Policing principals are the core of how the Burlington Police Department Operates. Focusing on the formation of relationships within the community and building partnerships to facilitate problem solving are of paramount importance to the BPD. Utimately, while effective policing techniques and modern equipment are important factors in the suppression of crime, the driving force is, and always will be, the individual behind the badge, the Police Officer.     Must be able to pass a background investigation, polygraph test, drug screen, and physical fitness test/ exam.

    Entry Level Salary: $13.84   hourly
    Academy Graduate: $16.53   hourly
    Top Pay: $19.01   hourly
