Salary and Benefit Information:
Salary is dependent upon the officer's education or P.O.S.T. certification.
Probationary Police Officer - Probationary status for a period of one year from date of hire.
Police Officer I, II, III - Annual promotions based on satisfactory performance evaluations.

October 2012:

Probationary- $3371 - $3719;
Police Officer I -$4010 - $4348;
Police Officer II- $4172 - $4508;
Police Officer III- $4967 - $5304.
Shift Differential -Differential pay dependent upon shifts worked: 3% - Swings; 5% - Nights.
Advancements based on specific criteria of longevity, and training hours.
*Paid overtime for required work or court appearance.
*A yearly clothing allowance of $1200.00.

    Requirements:
    - Be at least 20 years of age to apply and 21 by the date of hire. Applicants 20 years of age should contact Police Personnel to determine if they will be 21 by the time of the projected hire date.
    -Must be a US Citizen by time of test.
    -Must be a High School Graduate or have a GED by the time of test.
    -Applicants must have uncorrected vision in each eye of 20-200 with the strong eye corrected to 20-20 and the weaker eye to 20-60. Applicants who wear contact lenses are exempt from the uncorrected vision of 20-200, but must have the strong eye corrected to 20-20 and weaker eye corrected to 20-60. Exceptions may be made by the P.O.S.T. Council.
    -Have completed 64 semester credit hours of academic study from an accredited college as accepted by the Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges, or have an Idaho P.O.S.T. Intermediate Certificate. An out-of-state Intermediate Certificate equivalent may be substituted for the college requirement. Boise Police Department recognizes the value of military training and experience. Therefore the Boise Police Department is accepting military service in lieu of a portion of the 64 semester college academic credits to apply. To qualify, the applicant must have completed 32 semester college academic credits; and, possess an Honorable Discharge or be an active member of a Reserve Component/National Guard Unit and be in good standing; and, achieved a rank equivalent of E-4 or above; and must agree to obtain a cumulative total of 64 semester college academic credits or equivalent within five years of the date of hire with the Boise Police Department. Please note that college credit may be obtained by completing the POST Academy, the Boise Police Department's Advanced Academy and the Boise Police Department's Field Training Program.     - Be of high moral character and free of any recent major or habitual violations of the law, including drug usage or other activities or associations that would affect credibility as a police officer. Applicants must not have been convicted of a felony and must possess or be able to acquire a valid Idaho driver's license. Other criminal or driving convictions may also be grounds for rejection.
    Applicants must pass a physical fitness assessment and medical examination and be able to perform all essential functions of the position.
