North Londonderry Township Police Department's bike patrol has been in operation for only about a month, but according to Chief Kevin Snyder, it's already generated a lot of interest on the part of residents.

"The two officers who are sharing duty have reported a great deal of positive feedback in the neighborhoods," Snyder told the township supervisors during the monthly board meeting Monday evening.

Getting the officers out of a patrol car has increased police visibility and personalized their presence, he explained.

"It's giving us good contact with the public, including the kids," Snyder said.

The department currently has two certified bike officers, Sgt. Thomas Hentz and Officer Skylar Snyder.
