Suspect surrendered after an overnight standoff
BLUE RAPIDS, Ks. — A former Wichitan accused of shooting a Marshall County sheriff's deputy Monday gave
up Tuesday after an overnight standoff.
Stephen A. Macomber, 43, surrendered at around 6:45 a.m. after spending the night at a woman's home in
Macomber was sentenced in 1987 to 38 to 85 years in prison for four robberies, including the Sept. 23,
1985, holdup of a Wendy's restaurant at 5510 E. Central. Store worker Randy Atterberry was shot in the
heart during that robbery but survived.
