Editorial: All cops should wear body armor

"That's like asking a firefighter to go into a burning building without turnout gear on"

The Lowell Sun

WOBURN, Mass. — Let me start by expressing my condolences to the Maguire family, friends and the Woburn Police Department.

This tragedy should never have taken place. The Parole Board showed gross negligance releasing that criminal back into society.

I have a haunting question: "Was officer Jack Maguire wearing his bulletproof vest?"

I don't know if this question was asked or mentioned in any of the media coverage. I do know that in some states, cities, and towns, having a vest on is not mandatory, which makes absolutely no sense at all. Everytime an officer puts thier uniform on, that vest should be part of thier uniform with no exceptions.

That's like asking a firefighter to go into a burning building without turnout gear on.

So to all you police officers out there, when you put your uniform on, please put the vest on.
