U.S. Armor Sponsors the Return of Police Boxing to TREXPO
After more than a decade of absence, U.S. Armor sponsored the return of police boxing matches to the recent TREXPO-West Show in Southern California, which turned out to be a smashing success! The 3 matches between local law enforcement officers were viewed at the ring set up in the back of the exhibit hall at the Long Beach Convention Center by a crowd of over 550 excited fans at the end of the first day of the trade show, immediately following an hour of catered food and free beer! The event was designed to promote camaraderie among the "extended police family" in Southern California, attendance at the show and of course, to promote U.S. Armor.
This was a totally professional event; Budweiser provided the beer, the boxing ring and 6 "Bud Girls", the Referee was Pat Connolly, retired from L.A. County Sheriff's Department but better known now as the short, bald-headed Referee seen regularly on HBO Boxing, the Judge was a professional Judge who has appeared in all 6 "Rocky" movies and the tuxedoed announcer was the baritone-voiced Gil Carrillo, who has performed this function for many years at all of the LASD Boxing events. The evening opened with LASD Explorers provided the Color Guard, followed by a parade of the fighters into the ring and a local high school senior sang the National Anthem. This was followed by the traditional 10-count ringing of of the bell in honor of all of the fallen officers. Proceeds from a raffle held after the last match went to the family of LAPD SWAT Officer Randy Simmons, who was killed in the line of duty the week before.
Our banners were prominently displayed on all four sides of the ring, as well as being printed on the "Round" cards that the Budweiser girls held up between each round of each bout. The last of the U.S. Armor cigars and promotional t-shirts were also distributed throughout the crowd by the Budweiser girls, and we were featured on signage throughout the Hall and in all of the Show's promotional mailings and electronic announcements in advance of the Show. It was a great event that was very well-received!
