Anything can go wrong in a split-second. A husband can get upset with his wife, someone can fire a gun, a suspicious group can gather on a street corner. One never knows what to expect.

To help combat crime and stop problems before they start, the LaGrange Police Department is looking to use the eyes, ears and cell phones of residents.

The department has launched tip411, a program that lets residents anonymously “chat” with officers by using the text messaging capabilities of their cell phones.

“Everybody texts nowadays,” detective Chris Pritchett said. “I can’t believe it’s taken so long for someone to come up with the idea.”
