VisionTEK’s FrontLine Field Based Reporting Suite Now Supports Microsoft® Office Visio® 2007
VisionTEK has just released an upgrade to its very popular FrontLine Field Based Reporting (FBR) suite. Each application in the suite now supports Microsoft® Office Visio® 2007, which is beneficial to new customers and existing customers alike. This upgrade allows agencies to leverage their investment in their existing Visio products while also allowing a smooth migration to newer versions in the future – without the requirement of a ‘Maintenance’ upgrade from VisionTEK.
New Upgrade Helps Software Migration EffortsMigrating new versions of any software can be a hassle for agency IT staff. Because the new FBR suite can easily work with different Visio versions and templates, an agency can install Microsoft Office Visio 2007 on some their agency’s mobile data computer, while keeping other MDCs on earlier versions. The FBR reporting application and their interactions with Visio work seamlessly.
The Engineering Behind the Solution
A new process has been added to the FrontLine installation script that enables VisionTEK to determine the latest version of Visio installed on the target system and make that information available to all VisionTEK client applications via the registry. This process will employ a configuration file so that future releases of Microsoft Visio will be easily supported without any further modifications to the FBR applications and client installation scripts.
This single process shall also allow the installation scripts to install one version of the Microsoft Visio template and stencil files and then convert them to the correct Microsoft Visio file format during the installation process.
