SymbolArt's Santa Maria Police Centennial Badge Takes Best Badge Design at COPSWest
 SymbolArt's Santa Maria Police Departments current Centennial badge was awarded the winning badge for the Best of COPSWest competition. The award was presented during the COPSWest Trade Show at the Ontario Convention Center in Ontario, California.
This is a prestigious award for SymbolArts and the Santa Maria Police Department. The award winner is selected from entries that come in from COPWest Tradeshow attendee Police Departments across the country.
Chief Macagni from the Santa Maria Police Department wanted to incorporate a badge that represented something from the years of 1905 and 2005 into the same badge. After several phone calls and idea exchanges with SymbolArts they came up with the award winning design.
The Police Department was not able to locate a picture or an actual badge from 1905. They felt that the most likely style in 1905 was a five-point star. Staying with ideas from the past, they added Santa Maria's old name of Central City to the seal of the badge.
They then looked for things that they could blend into the badge from the present day. The most obvious was their current city seal of the ship. The date of 2005 was added to the outside rim of the badge opposite the year 1905. Every badge is personalized with the first initial and last name of each current-day employee. They finished the badge by adding "100 years" and the word Centennial.
Chief Macagni and his employees wear the badge proudly for one year, after which they will retire them to the individual employee. SymbolArts is honored that they were able to be part of designing such a great badge for the Santa Maria Police Department that will last a lifetime.
