'Light stun' hostile subjects

Submitted by:
Paul Feyerabend

I always carry a bright light (210 Lumens). When I'm dealing with people who begin to act as if they might become hostile, I give them a quick flash of light to the eyes. I have found that it tends to stun them for a moment, and while blinded for a few moments they calm down a bit. This move has prevented more than a few fights, and if they continue to be non-compliant, then at least they can't see you while you take the next step. Try this on yourself with a light 200 lumens or better at night, and see how long it takes for your vision to return.
