Fla. police to get defibrillators in cruisers

GROVELAND, Fla. By the end of next week, every on-call police patrol car in Groveland will have a new tool to help save lives.

Police are often the first to respond to medical emergencies in the small south Lake city, so officers this week received six automated external defibrillators to use in case they encounter people having heart attacks.

Although Groveland police are already certified to operate defibrillators, they will have extra training before the devices go into cars next week, officials said.
