TEAM GLOCK’s Sevigny and Abbate Win 2007 USPSA Production National Championship

The USPSA Nationals were held September 9-12, 2007 at the United States Shooting Academy in Tulsa, OK where Dave Sevigny won a milestone 5th Production National championship and Jessie Abbate won her first Production Ladies title.  The practical shooting match featured knock down steel along with moving and stationary targets.  In this practical shooting match competitors must shoot fast and accurate through complex courses of fire.  The weather and range conditions were especially challenging since competitors had to shoot in torrential downpours and move through ankle deep mud and water on the range.  Dave and Jessie’s GLOCK pistols once again performed perfectly throughout the championship which required a minimum of 375 rounds to complete.

Dave Sevigny used a GLOCK 34 in 9mm to score 4 stage wins and sixteen Top 5 finishes during the eighteen stage championship.  Sevigny was competing against many of the top shooters in the world.  The multiple national champions’ unparalleled consistency and toughness carried him to victory especially through the final day of competition.  “I didn’t feel like anything was really happening in the first couple days.  My goal was to be in a position to win in the closing stages so I was patient and looked for the right opportunities.  The third day went very well and I was able to erase the deficit I had myself in earlier in the match.  On the final day I had a slight lead, built on it some more on the first stage and hung on for the win,” said Sevigny.  “The last stage was gut wrenching.  I had to shoot before all the guys who had a chance to win it.  It was a smooth run but I slipped a bit in the mud filled shooting area while engaging a target. It felt like a rug was pulled out from under me and the shot must have went high (a miss), because it was nowhere in the scoring area.  My competitors had every opportunity to knock me out but the pressure forced them to drop points and take extra shots which allowed us to hang onto our win.”  GLOCK and Sevigny have dominated Production, which promotes the use of stock pistols since the division was introduced to USPSA.  Sevigny has also won Limited-10 and Limited “race” division championships with GLOCK pistols for a total of seven USPSA National titles since 2001.

It’s worth mentioning Sevigny’s GLOCK 34 is near stock and absent of any major gunsmithing work.  The same pistol used by Sevigny can be purchased at your local GLOCK dealer.  “You can be competitive right out of the box or add sight and spring preferences like mine for less than $90”, says Sevigny. GLOCK pistols were also used by an Ohio law enforcement officer Bob Vogel who finished 3rd overall with a GLOCK 35 and Tony Hawkins from Illinois who was 6th overall with a GLOCK 34.  More competitors in the Top 16 overall chose to compete with a GLOCK than all others combined.

In the ladies category, hot off her SCSA World championship in August, Jessie Abbate shot her GLOCK 34 in 9mm to her first USPSA Production National high lady title.  Abbate finished 140 points ahead of the second place lady, placed 48th overall in Production and even finished ahead of several Master class shooters in the finals. Like her teammate, Abbate battled through tough shooting conditions in the mud and rain.  Abbate’s GLOCK pistol was up to the task as she scored 14 high lady stage wins out of eighteen.  Jessie has worked very hard during her second year with the TEAM GLOCK Shooting Squad and was thrilled to win her first USPSA National title.  “This was a fun match and I certainly had my share of ups and downs.  After Day 1, I felt somewhat behind the pace of where I should be but was able to get it together from Day 2 through the final stage.  I felt at the top of my game and was able to earn my first USPSA National championship!” exclaimed Abbate.

Jessie added “The support from GLOCK, Inc. combined with intense practice sessions with my teammate Dave Sevigny matched with the support and training from my husband were contributing factors for success this season.  The opportunity to shoot with the top ladies at the Nationals was equally rewarding and I made many new friends.
