California Division of Parole Selects Smith & Wesson M&P40 Pistol
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. --- Smith & Wesson Corp., the legendary 159-year old company in the global business of safety, security, protection and sport, announced today that the California Division of Parole has begun issuing its officers a new duty side arm, the Smith & Wesson M&P40 pistol. The agency took possession of the 2,300 pistols chambered in .40 S&W from Smith & Wesson in November and officers in the field are currently using the M&P40.
After conducting independent testing that involved a number of competitive firearm models, the California Division of Parole selected the M&P40 pistol based on its high level of performance. Evaluators at the agency indicated that the M&P pistol performed reliably during live fire assessment drills and offered a variety of features that made it a clear choice for their division. Among the most popular features of the M&P pistol were the interchangeable grip sizes that allow the firearm to be easily tailored to each officer along with the pistol’s ambidextrous operating controls for both left and right-handed users.
In addition to the 2,300 pistols received by the agency, the California Division of Parole also purchased 25 M&P simunition training guns. The simunition firearms, designed to operate identically to the M&P pistol but without the use of live ammunition, will be utilized by the division when conducting force on force training drills as well as for acclimating new officers to design and functionality of the M&P40 pistol. Smith & Wesson will also provide the agency with a variety of other services including armory training and technical support.
“This decision by the California Division of Parole to select firearms from the M&P Pistol Series once again highlights the strong reputation that these firearms have earned in the diverse segments of law enforcement,” said Leland Nichols, Senior Vice President of Sales for Smith & Wesson.
The California Division of Parole joins a growing list of agencies in California that have selected firearms from the M&P Series for duty use. Additional California agencies that have recently converted to Smith & Wesson firearms include the Santa Barbara and Milipitas Police Department along with the Butte County, Jeromoe County and Kings County Sheriff’s Office.
