Counting Rounds Debate

Should we make officers count rounds while firing during range qualifications/training? Given that the brain is processing several things very quickly during a use of deadly force incident, and that studies have shown officers often can't recall how many rounds they have fired in an incident, do we really want to have part of the brain counting while engaged in a deadly encounter? Is this a realistic expectation?
