GILBERT, Ariz — A barricade situation involving a man accused of slashing his sister’s tires after an argument ended peacefully after more than two hours on Friday, but resulted in nine officers being treated for heat and dehydration, Gilbert police said.

John Witt, 38, was arrested on suspicion of assault, criminal damage for domestic violence about 2:15 p.m., a little more than two hours after he barricaded himself inside a home with a knife in the 800 block of S. Roca Street, according to police.

About 40 Gilbert police personnel had responded to the scene, and when temperatures reportedly reached 114 degrees, nine officers were treated on the scene for heat-related illness and dehydration, but none had to be taken to the hospital, according to police.
